In recent years, e-cigarettes have become a prevalent stop-smoking aid in the UK. Also known as vapes or e-cigs, they're far less harmful than cigarettes and can help you quit smoking for good.
What are e-cigarettes, and how do they work?

Quit Smoking

An e-cigarette is a device that allows you to inhale nicotine in a vapor rather than smoke.

E-cigarettes do not burn tobacco and do not produce tar or carbon monoxide, two of the most damaging elements in tobacco smoke.

They work by heating a liquid that typically contains nicotine, propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycerine, and flavorings.
Using an e-cigarette is known as vaping

Will an e-cigarette help me stop smoking?

Many thousands of people in the UK have already stopped smoking with the help of an e-cigarette. There's growing evidence that they can be effective.

Using an e-cigarette can help you manage your nicotine cravings. To get the best out of it, make sure you're using it as much as you need to and with the right strength of nicotine in your e-liquid.

A major UK clinical trial published in 2019 found that, when combined with expert face-to-face support, people who used e-cigarettes to quit smoking were twice as likely to succeed as people who used other nicotine replacement products, such as patches or gum.

The difference between deciding to quit smoking and making the switch to vaping is that you don’t need to make a decision: the finality that smokers usually feel is avoided; there doesn’t need to be the final cigarette; there doesn’t have to be the ceremonial cigarette packet stomping; there is absolutely no pressure, and more than that, no fear.

VG & PG E Liquids

VG has a slightly sweet taste and is considerably thicker than PG. Vegetable Glycerine provides a much smoother throat hit than Propylene Glycol, making it more suitable for sub-ohm vaping.

While nicotine and flavorings are commonly suspended in PG

Vegetable Glycerine (VG): Vegetable Glycerine, sometimes spelled Vegetable Glycerine, is a transparent, colorless, and unscented viscous liquid derived from the oils of plants such as Coconut, Palm, or Soy. It is also known as Vegetable Glycerol or simply Glycerol
Used topically, Vegetable Glycerine attracts and locks moisture into the skin, softening, smoothing, and soothing the complexion. Its pH level closely matches that of the skin, which makes it gentle enough to be used by those with sensitive skin and in baby skincare.

Food grade flavourings

The delicious taste that can be found in every type of Vape juice E-liquid comes from food quality ingredients. The bases of VG or PG don't have much flavour on their own, but when mixed with a few food additives it can be possible to produce a robust flavour.

The industry is working to eliminate a series of additives that have been proven to be safe to eat but not inhale. Vape juices containing diacetyl, for example, are being taken off the market.

Flavours make up a small percentage of vape juice and add flavouring to the vape juice to create different styles. Food safe flavourings can be combined together to simulate flavours like birthday cake, cookies and more.

The Best E-Liquid for Beginners

There are a lot of new terminologies to learn and hundreds of flavors to choose from, so where do you start? We’ve compiled a guide to e-liquids, answering some of the most commonly asked questions to clarify some things.

Nicotine Strength

Nicotine is an optional addition to e-liquid, and the majority of e-liquids are available in strengths of 0mg, 3mg, 6mg and 12mg. The addition of nicotine in e-liquid is there to help you manage your cravings after switching from smoking.

WHAT DO THE NUMBERS OF THE BOTTLES OF E-LIQUID MEANS?

This number relates to how many milligrams of nicotine there is per millilitre of e-liquid. Essentially - the lower the number, the less nicotine there is. Sometimes it’s written in a percentage format too - for example a 3mg/ml is 0.3% nicotine.

Nicotine is an alkaloid found in plants from the nightshade family, including peppers, tomatoes and potatoes. But only in the tobacco plant it is abundant enough to extract and refine. Nicotine can be synthesized in a laboratory too, but the process is very expensive.

Vape Tricks for Beginners

Not all vapers are interested in tricks, but as a beginner, you may be looking to spice things up and have some fun!

Here are 3 super easy vape tricks to get you started:
Waterfall
This is a super easy vape trick for beginners! Simply exhale your vapour into a bottle and then pour it out onto a surface to create a magical, mystical scene!
Bubbles
Another easy beginner vape trick - get some bubble solution and some kind of tube (e.g. an old kitchen/toilet roll cardboard tube. Dip the end of the tube in the bubble solution and then exhale your vapour through the tube to create a giant vape bubble!
French inhale
This one is slightly harder but can look really cool. Draw the vapour into your mouth, but don’t inhale into your lungs. Open your mouth to allow the vapour to slowly come out, and simultaneously inhale through your nostrils. The vapour will travel from your mouth up to your nose to create a waterfall effect.
